Koh Phanang is the party island
– After a fantastic 10 days on Koh Tao I decided to leave my lovely group of friends and head for Koh Phanang. I got the Seatran Ferry for 400 Baht and I actually preffered this to the Lomprayah as it was less nauseating.
When I got to the pier I managed to track down the free shuttle for the resort I was going to stay at and this was Milky Bay on the south central beach. A really nice looking resort with great bungalows for 650 baht. I was very happy here and they had a nice pool but because I had not booked they only had one night for me as the half moon party was very close to them and all their bungalows had been booked up for this event.
They gave me a free transfer to their sister accomodation Lime & Soda which was aimed more at the back packer party goer. For 400 baht a night i got a nice fan room here and the atmosphere was much better. I immediately met a great bunch of people who we went to the Waterfall party and pool party with. The third night in a row was the half moon party and this was a fantastic experience – set in the jungle with one gigantic stage around a central dancing pillar with fantastic lights and sound system. After recovering from this I stayed just one more day and left on the friday to get the ferry with three fellow travellers to Koh Samui to test out the third island in a row.
After tasting all three island I can safely say that Koh Tao is the least spoilt and Koh Phanang is a bit of a dump with Koh Samui more aimed at the two week holiday maker with more up-market all-inclusive resorts.
