Great images of the Lego Exhibition at Marina Bay Sands
– I arrived at Singapore airport on the 21st of December 2012. I managed to book an airport shuttle all to myself and get a ride to my hostel (Fern loft Little India) almost straight away. The place was ok a bit sterile and prison dorm like but I didn’t intend to spend much time in my room. The best thing about Singapore for me was actually the swimming pools.
For 75 pence I could swim every morning in an Olympic size pool for as long as I wanted. They have these in every district and also many other decent waterpark and swimming facilities dotted around. I met an 18-year-old English traveller and we went and saw the light show at Marina Bay Sands – where they tell a story and project HD lighting and video onto spray mist.
It’s really impressive and great for a free attraction. We also tried to get into the casino but unknown to us – you have to be 21 years of age to enter with violations of this carrying a penalty of 10’000 SGD. Tom was escorted out and did not have to pay.
When I came back to the hostel, I managed to leave my camera on the side and get it stolen; which pretty much ruined my whole Christmas in Singapore. I waited painfully for five days for the Singapore police to walk 500 meters around the corner and review the video footage.
Did they come? Did they bollox and I waited in the hostel eagerly for them all this time – which wasted my time and allowed the thief to get away with stealing my camera even though there was CCTV pointing right onto it.
One redeeming point about Singapore was getting a free-guided tour of Sentosa Island from the awesome guy on the reception and he also took us to the tree top walkways that are really cool and have breathtaking views.
By Boxing Day I was truly fed up with Singapore and not being able to find a traditional Christmas dinner was truly the nail in the coffin.
I had my final swim and booked onto the coach to Kuala Lumpur as I was hoping to find better spirits in myself, as this truly was a low point of the last three months.
